Simmons Prepared Foods President Retires; Successor Named

Johnny Bullington will replace the retiring Joel Sappenfield in the role, leading the prepared foods business of Simmons Foods moving forward.

Poultry and pet/animal nutrition processor Simmons Foods has announced that Johnny Bullington will be the new president of Simmons Prepared Foods, succeeding Joel Sappenfield, whose retirement was announced just a week ago.

Bullington moves into the role from senior vice president of Business Operations, a position he earned in 2024 at Simmons. He brings nearly two decades of poultry industry experience at Simmons and Tyson Foods. He began working for Simmons in 2006 as a production accountant and has held leadership positions in finance, accounting and supply chain over the years.

Sappenfield leaves Simmons after joining the company in 2021 and closes the book with some 35 years of industry experience under his belt. Simmons’ announcement noted that his legacy will inspire and shape future leaders at Simmons.
