Milo’s Tea Co. Opens $200 Million South Carolina Facility
Tea and lemonade processor Milo’s Tea Co. Inc. has opened its new, $200-million manufacturing and distribution facility in Spartanburg, S.C., according to a release shared by the company.
The processing plant is the company’s fourth and will employ more than 200 people when fully operational. Tricia Wallwork, chair and CEO of the company — and granddaughter of founders Milo and Bea Carlton, called the upstate South Carolina area is critical for Milo’s to expand its brewed fresh beverages into more retail locations across the mid-Atlantic states.
Milo’s announced the project in January 2023, at which time it anticipated the plant would be a $130 million investment. Over the past decade, Milo’s has grown from fewer than 50 employees to more than 1,000 and expanded its manufacturing footprint from one processing facility to now four — the other three are in in Tulsa, Okla., and Bessemer and Homewood, Ala.
The company gave a nod to Walmart, whose representatives were present “in a big way” at the ribbon cutting, with Walmart U.S. CEO John Furner even commenting on the new facility and partnership. Milo’s views the retailer as a valued partner of more than 30 years, helping fuel Milo’s growth through retail and line expansion. Milo’s products are available in more than 55,000 retail locations — with around 4,200 Walmart stores carrying the product across the U.S.
